can anyone explain why at so many tourny's we are using Fast-pitch Softballs (raised seams). The ISF rules state a flat stitch should be used in the slow pitch game? sorry for being so anal. cheers rufus

Hi Rufus BASU have nothing to do with the balls that are used in the Tournaments. Its up to the organisers to purchase suitable balls. Liz

Liz Will the National Events be using the 'proper' slowpitch balls this year? Cheers Roger

we've managed to source correct balls for the Manchester league without problem. What is the issue? I bet it's that monkey boy 'Ashton' at FBI who ordered the wrong gear. Again these 'fast-pitch' balls were used at Grand Slam 1. Surely this is an issue for the unpires. When the correct equipment is not being used as stated in the rule book. Though it would be a brave blu who stopped a tourny for using the wrong balls ;-)) Is the issue in hand liz? If not where will anally moan next? cheers rufus

BSUK's preferred supplier only has .44 375 yellow optic in stock but are looking for ... White - Slowpitch .47 or .44 COR 375lbs We as Nationals Tournament Officers can recommend what is used ONLY in National's and nothing else. Give the umps a break - they are there to umpire not argue about balls... We are also looking for other suppliers but the purchase costs will be higher as BSUK has a contract with their "PS"

that's the problem Liz, whoever is suppling the vast majority of UK events has spec'd the wrong balls. I got heat in Manchester because we have ordered the correct flat seamed balls. But at recent Nationals and other big tourney's they are using raised seamed balls. Some teams wanted to use these so the pitcher is familiar with the balls. They do need to be held differently. We went for optic yellow, due to one of our players sight condition. So no issue here. To be fair, this is not an issue for any individual ump. But I do think the head ump needs to let tournament organisers know that there is a ball standard within the ISF rules we play under.

Everyone in our league prefers the yellow raised seam balls too. Over the last couple seasons we had great difficulty getting the white from suppliers so we bought the yellow ones and they went down a treat. Only complaints we see are from the A team players and we will make sure the A Nationals have white non-raised seams provided we can purchase them. ...and you can definately see the yellow ones better.

Everyone misses the point about Balls. It has nought todowith looks or appearance, it's all to do with Hitting the bloody thing. Hence different discliplines of Softball have different compositions. Asstated, if organisers do not arrange the proper balls thats theirproblem and the players, not the umpires, weare there to call the games. I would firstly call off a game for not waering the correct attire, rather than the wrong balls. Anyway some batters could'nt hit a beach ball (Hey Dude!!)
